We wish we could tell you that it’s easy and that you make tons of money right away, but the truth be told is that you don’t. Don’t get us wrong you do make money blogging, just not right away and it’s not always easy. There are common tips that you will see if researching about blogging and how to start a blog.
From our experience we can tell you that it’s hard work but worth every single hour you put into it. The beauty of it is that you learn a lot and get to meet so many wonderful people from all over the world. The blogging community is a great place where you can find people that talk about any sort of things.
What we mostly are grateful for is that we got to meet so many moms that like us find they needed to voice their struggles, victories and everything in between. It’s great to have a community that understands and shares your fears, your small and big accomplishments.
Blogging is for us not only a way to provide for our families, but a way to connect with others. With time money comes as well, you just have to be patient and keep focusing on the message you want to share with the world. Ours is to help other moms go through motherhood in the smoothest way possible.
In our attempt to help mamas we want to share tools and courses that will help you become successful and get there faster as a blogger (AKA Work At Home Mama Opportunity). Setting up a Blog
First and foremost you need a domain name and a hosting site. We’ve switched a few times and are now with GoDaddy, which we find helpful and reliable.
Next you will need a blogging software, which will allow you to share posts such as the one you are reading now. We have been with WordPress from the get go and we couldn’t be happier. This is also the software that many professional bloggers use. The reason is simple: IT IS SIMPLE to use. It’s very user friendly and because it has a humongous list of plugins you can install.
ConvertKit – It’s an email provider that allows you to stay connected with your followers. We absolutely LOVE it. It’s designed with bloggers in mind and it allows you to create sequences of emails, and many other cool options to keep your readers involved. We didn’t pay too much attention to this detail in the first months of blogging and we believe it was our biggest mistake. So don’t make the same errors and get to it right away.
Making Sense of affiliate Marketing – Michelle earns over $50,000 a month through affiliate marketing, and she shares all of her best tips in this course. Included in it are 6 modules, over 30 lessons, over 20 worksheets, bonuses, an extremely helpful exclusive Facebook group, and more, and she goes through everything when it comes to affiliate marketing.
Influencers101 – This is the very first course we purchased and we are so happy we did!!! Books about Blogging
Monetize your Blog
Monetizing your blog is an essential part of a blog, and the way bloggers get paid. Having said that, one thing that we strongly suggest is to be somehow picky on what you choose to have displayed on your blog.
Impressions are very important in this world as it makes the difference between having returning audience or not, which means that they could make you or brake you. If you are willing to post anything on your blog and even give good reviews about a product/service that in reality is not that great could be extremely counterproductive. The reason behind is simple: TRUST
If your followers don’t trust your opinion than they won’t return and it can also ruin your reputation as blogger. So make sure to be true to yourself and only suggest what you really believe is a great product/service.
Having said that there are affiliate network websites that allow you to join affiliate programs with your favourite brands even as a brand new blogger!
Here are our favourites programs:
These are Affiliate Marketing Network websites that allow you to connect with brands and receive a commission on the sales coming from your blog. Many of these programs have the same purpose. The difference is basically the brands they’re affiliated with and this is why we joined them. They provide an option to work with the brands we love and want to share. Because there are so many we shared only our favourite and the ones we use the most. To help you keep track of them we have created a printable tracker, so be sure to download it along with another 5 helpful trackers.
shareasale.com – This is probably our favourite website so far and the program that we were able to join because of it that gives us the best results is Little Passports
Ultimate Bundles This is just absolutely great!!! They offer 90-95% discount on bundles of different types throughout the year. They offer extensive support to bloggers, making them an ABSOLUTE MUST HAVE for bloggers regardless of their niche. Just click the link to find out more
AWIN – Former Affiliate Window is the affiliate marketing website we joined to have access to Etsy amongst others.
Amazon – Well this is a no brainer. The largest online store where you can literally find anything to sell. Wouldn’t be wise to overlook this!
EBates – And least but not last EBates allows you to earn up to $25,000 in referrals. Yes you read that right!!! Bloggers can earn up to $25,000 in referrals + earn money every time you purchase through their app. I guess this is another no brainer!!!
Izea – Ok we are starting to like this option more and more. They give you the option to get in contact with brands that offer to sponsor a post on your blog.
Socialize with other bloggers
This is a very important part of blogging. Bloggers love to connect and stay connected for many reasons and one of them is that by helping each other you make each other more visible to the world. This is a WIN WIN situation so make sure to take advantage of this FREE tool.
Our favourite places to hang out with other fellow bloggers are:
Top Mommy Blogs – This is a blog community that many Bloggers connect to, so they can get to know one another, stay in touch and help each other. They offer a “Lounge” area where bloggers can connect and ask questions, share news etc. They also rank bloggers based on votes they receive from readers. Absolutely a fun and helpful place.
Mom Spark Media – They’re super fun and we love to hang out on their Facebook group. We enjoy their videos which are packed with useful tips.
Facebook Groups – These are great tools to share your content, get feedback, get noticed and overall get amazing support and knowledge. We believe you can learn so much from joining these groups. Don’t get us wrong some are just a waste of time but if you join the right ones you can gain a lot in a very small amount of time. The choice you have is to go with the ones very specific to your niche, or join those related to blogging in general. We joined a mix of both, because of the different topics they offer, and based on what we were interested in learning.
Social Media Tools
Recurpost – We use this to share our posts on Twitter and Facebook. It allows you to create content libraries that you can choose to share at different times thruout the day, week or month. Just set it up and forget about it. We love using it. It’s super easy and it saves us so much time. You can use it to share your own content or other people’s posts. We use it for both.
BoardBooster – This is for our Pinterest account. BoardBooster allows you to share your pins over and over again all in autopilot. A life saver for bloggers and a MUST have tool. For us Pinterest is the social media that provides the most traffic so this tool is a great advantage.
Crowdfire – This app makes it really easy for us to share our own content on our Social Media accounts.
It also searches for content to share related to key words that you set up. Other cool features are the options to see who’s following you on Twitter and who’s not and to create auto DM’s, so you don’t have to worry about getting your messages delivered to those that start following you.
RoundTeam – This is the only app we could find that allows you to auto retweet other influencers tweets. What we mean is that you can set up a list of influencers and RoundTeam will retweet their content. The awesome part is that you choose when, how many times a day, and create rules such as no retweets of retweets. So the app will automatically share only original content. Best app for auto retweets
Bitly – We use this to make our links look nice and effective. Bitly helps you shorten your links, track individual links and provide analytics for each of them and also optimize your marketing efforts to better fit your audience needs (ex: This http://desperatemamas.com/2017/03/07/goodies4yourboobies/desperate-mamas-top-picks-and-recommendations-all-you-need-to-know-as-a-new-mom/ Becomes http://bit.ly/UltimateGuideForTheFirstTimeMama)
Canva – This is an amazing tool to create your images. This website offers so many options… It automatically populates the size of the file based on the option you choose (Facebook post, banner, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, Youtube and so much more). You can choose the fonts, graphics, photos and a lot more. We can spend entire days using this app!!! Absolutely amazing.
Another thing you need to consider once you start a blog is to have a Media Kit ready to present to companies that approach you for collaboration or if you decide to approach them.
This is an example of our Media Kit which we update about once a month
